I studied for my MSc at Keele University from 2010 to 2011. My dissertation, supervised by Dr. Alexandra Lamont, was a mixed methods study of whether age has any bearing on the use of music in exercise.
Much of the existing research into the use of music in exercise has been done in Sports Science departments, with young, fit undergraduate participants. How relevant are these studies for the general public using gyms? What bearing does age have on music preference and usage in gym exercise?
The research is summarised in a poster that you can find here.
The qualitative study has been published in Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health, a peer-reviewed journal. Please contact me at email@example.com if you can't access this and would like to read it.
